The fishing village of Rocky Point, Mexico (also known as Puerto Penasco) is small, with only a few paved roads.
However, the town is forward-looking and anticipating an increase in tourism. They are undertaking more paving
projects to keep the dust to a minimum, and revitalizing some of the shops.
In the section of Rocky Point called “Old Port,” the Malecon (boardwalk) runs for several blocks. It is here
that you can buy fresh shrimp and fish, which is what Puerto Penasco is known for, or silver jewelry and the many
clothes and trinkets seen in shops throughout tourist regions of Mexico.
As you are shopping or exploring Rocky Point, be prepared for the usual onslaught of street and beach vendors
hoping to sell you a timeshare presentation or tour as you’re walking from stall to stall.
Rocky Point / Puerto Penasco is now in a tourist commercial development stage as tourist related services
businesses - bars, resorts, restaurants, cafes, real estate offices, property rentals, sandwich shops, gift shops,
golf courses and condo projects are in the forefront.
