Loreto
Restaurants
Loreto restaurants offer authentic Mexican food
and ambiance as well as a taste of back home. You'll find
comfortable surroundings and atmosphere with some fresh
seafood dishes that are to die for!
Mexico Lindo Y Que Rico
Av Hidalgo and Colegio, about 2 blocks west of Madero,
Loreto; 613/135-5004
Translating to "Beautiful Mexico and How Tasty," this
family-run restaurant offers both atmosphere and economic
fare. Traditional woven Mexican blankets add a splash of
color to the wall decorations. The breakfast menu features
hefty portions of classic choices such as spicy huevos
rancheros and huevos a la mexicana (eggs scrambled with
salsa). The lunch and dinner menus include queso fundido con
chorizo (melted cheese with sausage); a flavorful tortilla
soup served with avocado slices and laced with juicy bacon
drippings fish; in chipotle sauce; and chiles rellenos
stuffed with shrimp and topped with cream and cheese. Try
them with a cold Bohemia beer.
Cafe Ole
Madero 14, just north of traffic light at Hidalgo. Loreto;
613/135-0496
Café Ole is perhaps the most popular dining establishment in
town. One group of older expatriates sit at the same table
for hours every morning, drinking coffee out of personalized
cups they keep in the cafes kitchen. Its location on a
quaint cobblestone street near the plaza is part of the
establishments' recipe for success. Other ingredients are
generous portions, affordable prices, and quick service. For
breakfast try the huevos con nopalitos (scrambled eggs with
chopped prickly pear cactus) and fresh-squeezed orange
juice. For lunch, the hamburgers and fries are some of the
best in town. Fresh fish specials round out the dinner menu.
breakfast, lunch every day, dinner Mon-Sat; beer only; no

Chile Willie Restaurant Bar
Lopez Mateos and Padre Kino, north end of the malecon
(boardwalk). Loreto; 613/135-0677
Offering Loreto's only waterfront tables, Chile Willie is
the perfect place to take in the colors of sunset, catch a
moonrise over the water, gaze up at the stars glittering
above, or, on chilly nights, dine under the palapa roof.
Start with their steamed chocolate clams drizzled with
melted butter and garlic, then dive into the seafood combo
or the Mediterranean mixed grill—a lamb skewer served with
smoked pork and Italian sausage. Stay to watch the moon rise
as you linger over Mexican coffee for dessert. $$-$$$; MC,
V; traveler's checks OK; breakfast every day Apr-Oct, lunch,
dinner every day; full bar; no reservations
El Nido
Calle Salvatierra 154, at beginning of town, Loreto;
613/135-0027
El Nido's sturdy brick walls accented with dark wooden beams
give this popular steak house a masculine, ranch-style
atmosphere. El Nido ("the Nest") is a friendly place known
for its excellent grilled beef, seafood, and wine selection,
including several labels produced in Baja California. Watch
the chef prepare tender cuts, shipped from the
beef-producing state of Sonora, over a mesquite-fired grill
right in the dining room. Besides beef, popular choices are
the seafood combo and shrimp kebab. All dinners come with
bean soup, salad, and baked potato. Don't skip the flan for
dessert. Waiters in traditional white guayabera shirts are
attentive, while the Mexican trio, strumming and singing
traditional songs, will make you feel like your evening at
El Nido is a special occasion.
Tiffany's Pizza Parlor and Cappuccino Bar
Av Hidalgo, halfway between Indepencia and Pino Suarez.
Loreto; 613/135-5004
Drawing from her Greek-Italian heritage, Denise Sferas
brings pizza, cappuccino, and a little bit of Italy to
Loreto. Dining in this small, home-style restaurant feels
like eating at home as Denise cooks your hamburger or rolls
out your pizza dough. A large Tiffany's Special pizza is
made with Italian sausage, ham, mushrooms, and black olives.
The closest thing to Starbucks this side of La Paz,
Tiffany's serves cappuccino, espresso, latte, and café mocha
made with organic coffee grown in Chiapas, Mexico. A baker
at heart, Denise always keeps a fresh apple pie or tray of
cinnamon rolls out on the counter to accompany the coffee
drinks. The family restaurant is named for the owner's
daughter Tiffany.
